Loving Twitter and loving mobile internet

I have been raving about Twitter since last Saturday (the reason I have been so distant on FB and WP, lol). I’ll admit, I am undeniably addicted to Twit! So yesterday, I have done nothing but to look for a decent Twitter application that I can load up on my Symbian phones. The bets were on Twibble, Gravity, Twittix, and Tweets60.

Twibble was definitely out since it’s Java based (hence prolly unstable) though it’s free. Gravity and Twittix bothย have downloadableย trial versions–and if you want to use it forever, it costs USD 9.95 (Php 475.61) and EUR 4.95 (Php 337.85), respectively. Pricewise, I instantly downloaded Twittix trial version and was enjoying it the entire dayย yesterday. (I never bothered to check out Gravity. lol)

Then I found Tweets60 this morning, a free native app for Symbian S60. I was happy at first to finally found a free Twitter app for my Nokia E71, but when I had it for a road test, I was a bit disappointed. I noticed that some of the Tweets do not appear… so I removed the app and blind-sightedly bought Twittix though the demo version is good until next Wednesday. :-O

Blame it to impulsive buying… but anyway, the purchase is a one time deal and the succeeding updates are for free. Although, you can’t install Twittix to another phone and use the same registration code since the code is somehow locked with the phone’s IMEI. On the other hand, Tweets60 landed on my N73 since it’s free ๐Ÿ™‚

So, I finally picked my Twit-app, nowย  I have to set up my phone…

I was browsing through online to check out the current rate for Globe and Smart’s mobile internet for my real-time Tweets and found some great news:

Globe Telecom has been charging users Php0.15 per kb for surfing via 3G/HSDPA/GPRS using Globe Pre-Paid and Post Paid plans (other than Globe Visibility plans). Smart Communications has been charging Php10 for 30 minutes for its 3G/GPRS service.

Globe Telecom will now allow users to have two surfing options:

You can now choose how you are charged when you surf the net on your phone be it by KB (kilobyte) or by TIME (per minute). Globe Prepaid and Postpaid subscribers are by default on the KB Charging scheme. If you want to try out Globe’s new TIME charging scheme, all you need to do is to text TIME to 1111 for free!

To shift back to KB Browsing: text KB. To check the charging scheme that currently applies to your account: text STATUS. Send the keyword to 1111 for free.

The Php5 per 15 minute scheme works like Smart’s Php10 for 30-minute charging. Except that with Smart if you are disconnected, you can reconnect and continue to use the remainder of the 30 mins. With the Globe scheme, if you are disconnected, reconnecting will apparently cost you another Php5 even if you had some time less on your 15 minute block.

Coolness.ย ๐Ÿ™‚
