Korean Jjimjilbang Spa Experience at Lasema

Yesterday, I had my regular spa time in Lasema, which is my favorite Korean spa here in Manila. But since a lot of you guys have left messages on my IG when I started posting about it on my Instagram Stories, I decided to take some photos so I can write about it here on my blog.

Simply put, jjimjilbang is a large, gender-segregated public bathhouse in Korea, furnished with hot tubs, showers, and sauna. In Lasema, they strictly enforce NO CLOTHES ON in the wet area where the heated pools (you can choose to dip from heated ginger pool, heated green tea pool, and cool water pool), ttae me ri (Korean Body scrub), and wet sauna are situated. No cameras, too, in this area.

At the wet area, I normally spend my first hour here, alternately getting in the heated pools, the cold pool, and in the wet sauna. This is to prime your body and soften the skin. I also love booking a ttae meri (Korean Body Sbrub) appointment, which effectively gets rid of all the dead skin cells in every nook and cranny of your body.

Luckily, Lasema has two area: the wet and dry sauna. If you’re iffy in walking around buck naked, you can wear the pink robe (for girls) and just go straight to the dry sauna area where the different dry sauna rooms, ice room, massage area, and snack bar are in.

Here’s the alley for the massage area:

I normally go straight to the dry sauna after spending 30-40minutes in the wet area.

The dry sauna has 3 rooms: Dome Clay Sauna, Salt & Charcoal Sauna, and Oak & Clay Sauna. The first two are my favorite.

Each room has different benefits–the list of benefits per room are posted by the door. I love hitting the charcoal and salt room as charcoal absorbs all your body’s impurities and the salt releases negative ions that help with your breathing.

Since I have been having cough lately, I decided to spend most of my time in my favorite Salt & Charcoal Sauna. I was so inspired by this room that I was already trying to find Himalayan Salt Lamps that I can buy for my room.

When my body gets so hot from the sauna, I love going straight to the Ice Room. This is my favorite place to hang out to. It’s like living in a freezer.

Lasema also has a small snack bar where you can order from their Korean menu. I love snacking on dumplings while my beau got himself a bowl of hot noodles.

If you believe in aquarium therapy (they say watching fishes in aquariums can boost your health and relax you), there’s a room on the other side from the snack bar where there’s an arowana fish and two other black fishes you can watch tirelessly.

Here’s the current price list:

Note that the ttae meri (Korean body scrub) is not listed here. I paid Php810.00 (Php370.00 jjim jil + sauna and Php440.00 ttae meri) for my session yesterday. This is their weekday 5am-5pm rate.

Normal add on rate for ttae meri, as I was told, is Php550.00. So it’s better to book and pay for your ttae meri appointment before actually entering the spa as it becomes cheaper. Also, don’t forget to tip your ttae meri therapist. I normally give Php100.00 (USD2.00) as a tip. But since I was happy with my session yesterday, I gave double. 🙂

I always enjoy my Lasema sessions. You can actually spend the entire day here without getting bored. We were told that they will transfer to a new location come February 2017. So you can wait for the new Lasema to open and enjoy the new facilities. 🙂

dahil mamaru ako, igoogoogle ko para sayo… LOL!

Sauna – a small room used as a hot-air or steam bath for cleaning and refreshing the body.
“the air-con was broken—the place was like a sauna”

jjimjilbang – A jjimjilbang (Korean pronunciation: [t͈ɕimdʑilbaŋ]; Hangul: 찜질방; Hanja: 찜질房; MR: tchimjilbang) is a large, gender-segregated public bathhouse in Korea, furnished with hot tubs, showers, Korean traditional kiln saunas and massage tables. Jjimjil is derived from the words meaning heating.
